THE
LIGHT BETWEEN THE TOWERS
By:
Paola Sarmiento.
Our story begins with one of the oldest questions of
all times: Why does evil exist in the world? Naima, a
small girl in the village of Corazin, wonder every moment while she tried to
look for some of starlight in the sky to see his mother’s face. The world was
cover in darkness and the people of Corazin had never truly seen the details of
the world that surrounded them. The elders said there were a time were light
could be found in the planet but a strange event happened that left the whole
planet in darkness, with nothing but the weak reflection of the stars on the top of the trees. There were not day
or night because there was not sun or moon as we know it now.
“What could be so bad to scare the light away from the
world Mom?- Naima asked
“No one really knows, my dear” her Mom replied.
“But Grandma Noni says is our fault. Is that true? “said
Naima with a sad expression on her face.
“It is… but you don’t need to worry about that
anymore, cause there is nothing we can do about it now…you better go to sleep,
we have a long day tomorrow.
Naima lived with her mom, dad, little brother and her
Grandma Noni, one the most important Elders in the village of Corazin. Grandma
Noni was wise and mysterious, she didn’t talk much and every word she said had
usually a meaning and a consequence. Naima was the only one in the village
capable to make her talk more than a few minutes. It seemed like Grandma Noni
saw herself reflected in the smart, quite, intriguing personality of Naima, who
was now eleven years old and It would
soon become part of the “Betains”,
the girl scouts group of the village, who were prepared and trained to be the
artists and caretakers of Corazin’s oral traditions.
Naima woke up the next day with the feeling of a very
realistic dream, thinking she needed to ask Grandma Noni more about the origin
of the darkness in the world. She took
her breakfast earlier that morning and after helping her mom with the chores of
the tent, she decided to go to the forest before the Betains training began.
There was no difference between day and night in Corazin, so she had to
take the most powerful lamp in her home and walked towards the dark, heavy
forest across the river.
In her dream, Naima saw a small path guiding her to an
open space near the stream. With no hesitation, she looked for the small path
and there it was, as clear as she saw it in her dream. “What that could mean?”
she thought. But when she got there the same open space offered her a sight of something
wonderful and unexpected: two small towers rose up in front of her and in each,
the drawing of the Sun and the Moon. Their names were labeled under the images and
on top of each, some phrases stated: The
light came into the world, but they loved darkness better than light, because
their deeds were evil.
Naima could not believe what she was seeing. She stood
there for hours, thinking about Grandma Noni’s words and the ones she has
already heard from the Elders. Finally, she remembered her Dad always spoke
about a book where their ancestors wrote everything that happened at the beginning
of Ages. Maybe if she asked Noni, she would allow her to see what is was
written there.
Naima came back to the village, took her little
brother and confronted Grandma Noni about the book. The old lady looked at her
with calm and a sparkle in her eyes:
-
“Have
you seen the two towers at the forest Naima?” She asked.
-
“I’m
sorry Grandma, but I had a dream and it was so vivid that I had to follow it.” The girl replied.
-
“That
means that you are ready to speak to Him.” Grandma Noni took her by her arm, led her to a cabinet
and handled an old book with strange writing on top.
-
“Go
to the forest, read it and wait in front of the towers.” Grandma Noni said. Naima went back and sat down to read. The book contained
the story of how
the Corazin people cast the light away.
“God
had created the light and the energy. To support life on Earth, the Sun and the
Moon were created as helping forces, and a much powerful light were set in the
hearts of men and women, to love one another: The light of the Creator Yeshua. For
generations, the Sun and the Moon worked together to sustain life on Earth, but
the most powerful light, the one inside people’s hearts, began to fade away.
With every bad action, evil deed and sin, the light became week, until one day it
disappeared. The Sun and the Moon couldn’t resist such a lost and they decided
to leave and never rise again. So darkness covered the Earth until today”
Naima couldn’t believe was she was reading. Soon, she discovered that this vital light
came from one person “Yeshua”. But who was that character?. Suddenly she
remembered the rest of the dream. A voice had told her: “Call upon my name”.
Without thinking, she raised her voice and said the name three times. Finally, something amazing happed. Between
the two towers a small light began to appear, and as she continued calling
Yeshua, the light became stronger and bigger.
Then she heard: “Naima, I have
seen your pure heart and it’s time to get the light grow inside Mankind again”.
Then, she started to shine and glow
from within.
That night, Naima shared her story with the rest of
the Village, those who believed her, began to shine too and rapidly the village
were enlighten by the glow of those who believed in the name of Yeshua. Soon
the Sun and the Moon came back and the people on Earth never lived in darkness
again.
THE END.
